Morgan Sindall recently commissioned us to film and map the Eastfield Depot site to assist their work on the Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme.
They view their site imagery using our Explorer software and an Open display system to improve operational planning and safety.
Improving weekly briefings and safety discussions
Planning meetings have conventionally been carried out using standard line diagrams and limited visual information.
Not sharing the same picture of the site can lead to mis-understandings and mistakes.
Mission Room Explorer reduces exposure to site risks
Using Mission Room Explorer, the team are able to access their site from their office. They can carry out more surveys and planning without the need to physically visit the site.
The ability to make these virtual site visits improves the teams understanding of the work to be carried out.
The project also saw the benefit of the site filming and mapping service as a pre-construction dilapidation survey.
The Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP) is a comprehensive package of improvements to Scotland's railway infrastructure. A Scottish Government priority, the EGIP is being delivered by Network Rail and includes modernisation and upgrades to key junctions and infrastructure as well as widespread electrification of the Scottish rail network, including the main line between Edinburgh and Glasgow and to Stirling and Dunblane.
The depot at Eastfield will be enhanced to add more loops and sidings and increased stabling capacity facilitating the management of the new fleet of electric trains.
Eastfield will become a key strategic location for the efficient storage, management and deployment of new modern electric trains.
